Orkut Safety Filter Will Block Suscipious Profiles

Now Orkut will mark profiles and communities as unsafe that have content that is mature in nature, but doesn't violate their community guidelines. For example, their community guidelines prohibit pornographic images, which includes things like frontal nudity and graphic sex, and such profiles will be deleted. However, our community guidelines don't prohibit images that don't contain nudity, but are sexually explicit, so we may mark such profiles as unsafe. Note that your profile does not get deleted if it is marked unsafe - it just becomes hard to access.

Orkut is constantly working to keep it clean and beautiful. The safety filter lets users choose to show only profiles and communities that have been screened for potentially inappropriate images or text. By enabling the safety filter:

• Potentially offensive communities and profiles will be hidden from your search results.
• The pictures of potentially offensive profiles and communities will not shown in your community and friend lists - instead you will see a special icon.
• A warning message will be displayed before you access these profiles and communities.

If you'd like to enable the safety filter, just follow these steps:

1. Click settings on the left sidebar of your orkut profile or homepage.
2. On the general tab, find the 'safety filter' section.
3. Select the bubble next to 'do not show inappropriate content.'
4. Don't forget to click the save changes button at the bottom of the page when you're done.

How To Play Safe On Orkut - Beware Of The Malicious Scraps On Orkut

Nowadays Orkut Accounts are being Compromised due to some increased uses of javascripts which unknowingly puts your account in the false category of spammers. The Situation is So bad that many evil community owners use it to increase their community members.... See the screenshot below, I am sure you have received this scrap more than your friends actually scraps you.


This scrap promises you to Unlock scrapbooks, albums , increase fans. You ultimately fall into the Trap and visit the Link. Here you see an instruction manual telling you to run a java script.
You run the Script thinking it will work .. and then you saw nothing happened.

But a lot happened .. after running that script.. you had Scrapped the first 50 of your friends the same scrap like the screenshot above, and also joined some 10-15 communities automatically without your knowledge.

The sad situation is that almost every evil-intelligent community owners are using this in the greed for more members... A friend had tried this once and was surprised with the results. The members increased from 6000 to 22000 in just one day... Seeing this He immediately stopped the Usage. But the others didn't . Thus more & more people are being compromised.

Advice : Never Run a Javascript no matter who tells You to .. for your own good.

How to Stop Someone From Sending you Scraps on Orkut ? How to Ignore someone on Orkut ?

Recently, one of my friends was being Bugged with some Sort of Annoying Scraps being send by some unknown person. Even I had this problem once when a guy was sending me loads of "unwanted" and Irritating Scraps. How to Ignore someone on Orkut ?
Step 1 : First go to his/her profile, a look for more » in the profile

Step 2 : Then click on more » . After clicking it will bring up a few Options (see screenshot - right)



Step 3 : Now, Click ignore user from the list.

Step 4 : Finally, that person will be in your Ignore List.

How To Recover Hidden Password Of Orkut / Gmail

This is the most stupid situation I face when I sit in front of Computers at my college / Cafe. This is because I have forgotten my passwords to my Gmail/Orkut Acount. Thanks to the use of the "Remember Me" feature in most form logins to help the signing in process faster.
Well,

There are 2 Easy Steps to Recover your Forgotten Passwords

Step 1

Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy, and select the Saved Passwords option.

Click on View Saved Passwords to see the Password Manager and you’ll see a Show Passwords button at the bottom right. That’s new.

You get a confirmation dialog (supposedly because showing your passwords is an important event). I think the intended use of the confirmation dialog is to save you from inadvertently showing your passwords to someone looking over your shoulder.

And your passwords are then shown in the plain text glory (mine are “pinked out” in the screenshot below, of course).

Step 2

On any page or login forms with asterisks passwords,
Copy paste the following Javascript into the url bar and hit enter.
Your password should display on a popup window.

Tips For Not Getting Your Orkut Account HACKED

These days may of the user’s come with an issue that there account has been hacked , so I just thought of writing this post which I guess will help all the users at least from there side, not to get there Orkut account hacked.

Few Things which can help you to not get your account Hacked are:

Don’ts:

• Never share your username and password with anyone.
• Never use the remember password option from a public or shared computer.
• Never click the script in you scrap from a stranger or friends whom you don’t know personally.( Note: can make a fake id to try the script)
• Avoid personal data or photos posting in public.

Do’s:

• Always sign off when ever you have done with your work.
• Delete the cookies and history when ever you log out.
• Change the password every month or so
• If you suspect of anything like you have been added in any community’s that you dint joined then change your password as soon as possible.

3. Contact Google:

• 1. Fill the form from where you always access the account, because Google will automatically capture your IP address and will help them compare your account.
• 2. Fill the form as much as you can, that will help them
• 3. Try to give accurate answers, if not take your time and think before you fill it. Or ask some one close to you who know few answers you need.

What If You Forget Your Orkut password

There are a lots of people who don't use orkut so often. And few even can't remember their Orkut login password because of  irregularity. And this problem stands tall, because they don't know the steps, i would say the easiest and quickest steps to recover orkut login password. Here I am going to guide you guys with the minimal steps to recover your password. One more thing, the below described steps are also followed by hackers to hack orkut login details, i.e. orkut login ID and orkut password. How To Retrieve Your Orkut Login Details In case You Have Forgotten:

• Go to Orkut homepage & click on I cannot access my account link. Follow the instructions properly. If you have forgotten your e-mail ID, click on I forgot my username, in case of password recovery, click on I forgot my password. Google will ask you to enter the primary e-mail address that you use to sign into orkut. Now in case you don’t use Gmail as your default mail to sign into orkut, you will be sent a e-mail from google explaining how to reset your password or with your e-mail ID (in case you asked for it).

• If you have signed in or tried to sign in to your orkut account in the past 48 hours, and you have a secondary email address listed in your Google Account, you’ll receive a message with instructions to reset your password at that address.  
  

• If you have tried to log into your orkut account in the last 48 hours but don't have updated your secondray e-mail address with google, then wait for at least five days. After five days, you can reset your password by answering your security question.
  

• If your account has been idle for 48 hours (this means you have not logged into orkut or tried to log in last 48 hours), answer your security question, and select a new password. Same procedure is also applied when you forget username.

Beware Of Scrapkut Virus!

How dose a WORM named SCRAPKUT targeting Orkut users ?

1. A malicious scrap message which is posted to victim’s scrapbook.
2. Clicking on the link, redirected to some malicious website which prompts you to download the file “flashx_player_9.8.0.exe” disguised as a flash upgrade.
3. The victims whole system comes under the virus attack.
4. When a user visits Orkut and starts a session from the infected system, maindwxp.exe injects Javascript code into the active Orkut web session and executes in context of the Orkut domain and user authenticated session.
5. And your friends end up getting fake mails (ones you never sent) from you, which starts over again. 

 The cyber security wing of the department of information technology (DIT) has suggested all Orkut users refrain from downloading any fake link to YouTube video looking as if it is from a known member of its friend list, The active Orkut virus was tracked on Friday last week while other viruses have been active on several other social networks for a few weeks now.
Similar attacks on Facebook, MySpace and Yahoo! MediaGrid have also come to light in recent weeks. On Facebook and MySpace, the user may be caught unawares while uploading photographs. After executing the malicious binary code, disguised as flash memory, the Scrapkut virus downloads further binaries-windosre-mote.exe, logservicess.exe and win32chekupdate.exe - to perform malicious actions on victim system. The downloaded file logservicess.exe copies itself as maindwxp.exe to different locations to ensure its execution on every start-up of infected system.

Here's how you can PROTECT YOURSELF:

1) Orkut users should remain cautious while visiting any link provided in there scrapbook.
2) Keep anti-virus and antispyware signatures up-to-date.

How To Lock Selected Orkut Albums

Few days back orkut added a new feature which is one of its kind to privacy of albums. So from now you can manage the albums you want to share with everyone in your network or with all of your friends only. This can be done in two ways as follows :

# First way :-
1) Login to your orkut account.
2) Then click the Photo link which is under your account name.

3) Click the Edit button of the album you want to edit as shown in the snip shots.

4) Choose your option to whom you want to share the album.

5) Then click update button.

# Second way :-
1) Login to your orkut account.
2) Then click the settings link which is on your left hand side screen ( Show in the Snap Shots)

3) Click on the privacy tab.

4) Now in allow content to be accessed by: you can restrict who you want to allow to access your content which can view scrapbook, write in scrapbook, videos, testimonials, feeds and albums.
5) When you select albums as choose individually then you will have a new drop box below it.
6) In the new drop box you can select the choice of options for all the albums individually.

7) After all the changes just click the save changes button under it.

Orkut Security [Virus Alert]: Scraps and Fake Websites Can Hack Your Orkut Account and Community

This time the alarm is real. There is a link circulating malicious orkut plugins. That link asks you to install a plugin, which claims to help you in orkutting. And now if you accept, you get infected! The virus generally reaches Orkut users via scraps, left by a friend of the person, who might have clicked on the virus before. And after your click, the virus will automatically send those malicious scraps to your friends.

This thing works like a pyramid system. If you get infected, infected scraps will be posted in all your friend's scrapbooks automatically and so on. So, this Orkut Virus is infecting Orkut users rapidly.



How Orkut Virus Hacks Orkut User's Accounts and Communities :

This virus asks you to click on a link. Those links also claim to do some uncommon things like Scrap to all or something like this. Upon Clicking, it will open a page in the same window. Then it will ask you to us to choose from varieties of services on that new page. Like 1. Scrap2all 2. Animated Testimonials 3. Install Orkut Themes etc. If you click on any those links, it will take you a page like Orkut.com. But just check that URL. That's not Orkut.com. That will be something like 0rkut.com (Zero[0] instead of O) or Orukt.com (Check the spelling). And now-a-days they are using URLs in a new style, so that anyone can not even do a doubt. Like, http://www.orkut.communty.com (Yes, this is a single URL and check the spelling here again. They use different tricks not to grab your attention and try to make that site look like the original Orkut.com. Now if you enter your ID and Password on that Fake Orkut login page, they will steal your e-mail ID and password, that you use to access Orkut and different Google services. How to Keep your Orkut Account Safe and Avoid Orkut Virus:

Remember the most important tip: Always check the destination link before clicking! To do this, place your mouse over the link, and observe the address that appears in the lower left corner of your browser. Check out the exact field, view twice, because those virus makers create such links that can confuse people very easily.

For example, the address of the virus is ORKUT.COMUNNYTI.COM, while the official address of orkut is only ORKUT.COM. New Orkut users can get confused easily with these kind of links.

Now, I have warned you. Do not click on any of those links you get on your scraps. Some readers of the Journal Orkut.etc.br (Orkut Link For People in Brazil) complained that after installing this plugin, they got their communities stolen and even profiles deleted. Also, one of them was infected with a Trojan Horse (Trojan horse) that required the formatting and resettlement of Windows XP.

Orkut Warns Not To Use Scripts Provided By Foreign Sites

The use of codes in Orkut.com, Google, could expose users to the risks of invasion of profile, the contamination by computer viruses or spywares. The warning was made by Shauna O'Brien, Operations team, Orkut.

According to O'Brien, we need to take basic measures to defend itself on Orkut. "There are certain things we do every day to protect our privacy, like locking the door of the house and car when they're out, do not disclose the password of the bank or not to accept ride from strangers etc. Similarly, there are certain things we must do to maintain our security and privacy on the Internet, "he explains.

For Google, the main safety tips in using the largest social site can be summarized in two attitudes:

1. Total Secrecy
   
2. No Scripts

Total Secrecy:
Total secrecy does not mean that you would never share your Orkut username and password with anyone. You must change your Orkut password regularly, even if you don't suspect any harmful activities.

The Orkut team also condemns anyone's access to the Orkut site through a third party except Google services. Always remember to type your username and password for Google Account on orkut.com or on other sites belonging to Google. Never select the" Remember me on this computer "if other people use the same computer.

No Scripts:
Despite of several controversies, Google team has a technical explanation: Never paste a URL or a script in your browser while logged on orkut.com, regardless of what is being promised.

According to O'Brien, Orkut.com explicitly recommends that users should not click on links in emails that claim to be from orkut or Gmail.

Threats on Orkut should be reported to police

Those relations resolved badly in real life normally remain problematic once they get to the Internet. One of the biggest problems of Orkut.com has been with respect to crimes committed from small personal rivals.

Colleagues from school or work who do not go well and do not share a healthy bonding, often search for a media to express their ill feelings. Few of those people have taken Orkut as a medium to take revenge.

Everyone must remember that the best way is always to avoid the confusion, that will reach these extremes. But if you're a victim of these attacks, how to act? What are the steps you should take if someone is giving you threats and showing nasty attitude on Orkut.

• Open the page.
• Press PRINT button on your keyboard.
• Open MS Paint. (Go to Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Paint)
• Press CTRL+V.
• Save that Pic. (That's your screenshot and this evidence is enough)
  

Report to Police:

In any case, any threat to its integrity must be taken seriously and reported to police authority. Knowing or not who made the threat, with or without such suspicions and evidence, should seek a delegacia to be targeted.

The fact is not always know what is happening in the head, who made the threat. Usually we have at least an idea of who is the author, hence, you can help police. How to remove ORKUT IS BANNED [heap41a (anti firefox)] virus

This virus heap41a not only blocks Firefox but also Google sites like Orkut, Youtube & some other too except Google.com. If you open any of these sites in any other browser it closes down the browser & again gives a message "Orkut is banned you fool, The administrators didn't write the program guess who did? Muhahaha!!!" or "I didn't hate Mozilla but use IE or else".


This virus is not a hardcore type virus means it doesn't cause any serious harm but tries to reduce or finish the use of firefox or Google group.



How to remove Heap41a virus :

1. Go to c:/heap41a
2. You will see some files in that folder naming Reproduce.txt, Copy.txt, etc.
3. Just delete all the files present there in that folder.
4. Some file may not be deleted as they may be currently running on your system.
5. Reboot your system & keep pressing F8.
6. Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
7. After logging in you will the command prompt window.
8. If your default directory shown there is not “C:\” then type “cd\” & hit enter.
9. Now type this command “del heap41a”.
10. Now reboot your system & start the windows normally. Your system is now free from heap41a virus.

Now you can access google services and firefox also.

Orkut Spam Filter : Prevent Spam and Spammers in Orkut

Orkut is trying to fight against spamming since Google took over it. But this is nearly impossible for Google to prevent people from spamming in this largest social network. So, finally after having several thoughts, they launched Orkut Spam Filter.

Indirectly Orkut admins asked us to fight against spam with them. Orkut recently launched a new system and they named it Spam. You can check that option in the left sidebar of your Orkut homepage. Below is the screenshot :
And if you don't have any spams in your profile, it will prompt a message saying "Hooray, no spam here!'. Like the below screenshot :


But as of now, I can't see any noticeable use of that function. i mean, in your Orkut messgaes, you get several spam messages, but there is no button to mark them as spam. Orkut still vulnerable to the scrapbook XSS bug

www.Orkut.com, the social networking site from Google, one of the biggest e-business company, still very much exposed to the XSS bug. Even though on orkut's official blog the orkut team says that they have fixed the bug and the new features of the orkut scrapbook cannot be exploited anymore, but the problem is still there and seems to be at large. As per the orkut team "..We believe that this action has been effectively stopped" but here below I am sharing a small script that does the trick on your orkut scrapbook.

If someone copies the below script and sends you a scrap in your scrapbook, you automatically are logged out of orkut. And even if you try login again and go to your scrapbook, you are logged out again. I would suggest not trying this with your friends, because if you do so.. they might not know how to delete your scrap and could never come out of this problem.
